What are the best vegan or gluten-free foods and drinks? Vo…

[ad_1]

Whether the aim is to eat healthier or avoid certain foods due to intolerance or allergies, more and more people in the U.S. are going gluten-free and vegan each year. Once upon a time, eliminating gluten or animal products from your diet meant severe restrictions on what you could eat, with things like cheese, pizza, pasta, beer, and sweets all but off the table.

Today, thanks to a growing understanding of what it means to be vegan or gluten-free and a new wave of gluten-free and vegan menus and products, these restrictions are a thing of the past. To find the best vegan and gluten-free food and restaurants, USA TODAY 10Best asked an expert panel to nominate their top picks across nine categories, from cider to gluten-free bakeries to vegan cheese.

Vegans Next Door Complain That ‘Meaty Smells’ From Neighbor…

[ad_1]

As humans, we all have various pallets and food preferences. It is natural for us to have different dietary choices. Some of us cannot stand the smell of sushi while others can chow down on it 24/7.

Lucky for everyone, diet is a personal choice that is entirely up to the individual. However, there are some people who believe otherwise.

One Australian citizen, identified on Facebook as a woman named Kylie from Burns Beach, learned this after they received a harsh letter from their neighbors criticizing their cooking choices that they claimed to smell from their own house.

The neighbors were vegan and claimed that the smells of meat from the person’s kitchen were making them ‘sick’ and ‘upset.’

After the individual opened their front door and discovered a handwritten note, they decided to share it on Facebook, which sparked a heated debate on whether or not the action was appropriate.

“Hello neighbor,” the letter starts. “Could you please shut your side window when cooking, please? My family and I are vegan (we eat only plant-based foods) and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset. We would appreciate your understanding. Thanks.”

Some believed the letter was inappropriate, while others argued that the neighbor’s request was acceptable.

People suggested alternative methods to block out the meat smell if it disgusted them, such as closing the windows. However, others were not as kind in their suggestions, adding, “I’d be cooking up bacon and steak every day and putting a fan behind it and directing it at the window!”

Those who found the neighbor’s request appropriate said, “They’re simply asking for a different window to be open that isn’t adjacent to their home. This is like the nicest way they could possibly ask.” Others commented on how polite the letter was and that it’s a nice thing to see respectful neighbors not shaming others for their food choices or morals.

Vegan joke: Schoolboy, 10, returns to the Today show with A…

[ad_1]

An Australian schoolboy has returned to breakfast television after his extraordinary moment that aired on Australia’s Today Show left the whole world in stitches.

Byron Kirk, 10, made another appearance on the breakfast show on Thursday morning to chat in the studio with co-hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo about his recent viral gag, before telling another off-colour vegan joke.

This time, the youngster also took a swipe at fans of the Collingwood football club.

‘Why are all Collingwood supporters vegans?’ he asked.

‘I don’t know,’ Stefanovic said.

Kirk replied: ‘Because you need teeth to chew meat!’

The joke left the co-hosts stunned once again, as Abo jokingly scolded the 10-year-old while Stefanovic cried: ‘Booyah!’

Earlier on in the chat, Kirk’s mother Melissa revealed the initial viral joke wasn’t planned when he appeared on the show via Zoom link

‘I kind of stirred him up beforehand. It was like, “Loosen up, tell a joke.” And then before he went on live, I was like, “Don’t tell a joke.”‘ she explained.

‘And then as soon as you asked for one and it went, I just said, I tried to make it not happen!’

Kirk, who lives in the mining town of Mount Isa in outback Queensland, also revealed that while he doesn’t have social media, his friends had come across the video ‘every single day’.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday, Kirk spoke more about his rise to viral fame that culminated in an interview with TV host Piers Morgan.

He said his chat with the polarising British presenter went well, as they shared the view that anyone who was offended ‘needs to learn to laugh’.

‘Mum kept telling me he’s a really really big person,’ Byron said.

‘He didn’t ask me any hard questions but we were on the same page.’

Kirk’s joke first aired on the Today show as  Byron was talking about his experience of competing in the 2023 Youth Bull Riders World Finals in Texas.

Having discussed the rodeo, Kirk thought he would chime in with a joke.

The moment was unplanned and producers had no idea what the boy was going to say ahead of time.

The youngster began by asking: ‘A vegan and a vegetarian are jumping off a cliff to see who will hit the bottom first. Who wins?’

‘I don’t know,’ Stefanovic said. ‘Who wins?’ asked Abo.

The boy didn’t miss a beat as he replied: ‘Society!’

After their initial shock subsided, the pair doubled over in laughter, while newsreader Brooke Boney covered her mouth in disbelief.

Stefanovic was so astounded he almost fell off the couch.

‘We weren’t expecting that!’ Abo said, laughing nervously.

The moment was later posted to the Today show’s TikTok account – and soon drew millions of views from across Australia and around the world.

The clip is making big waves in the United States, with TikTok users remarking that such a moment could never happen on strait-laced American TV.

Introducing the video in a viral TikTok, American commentator Benny Johnson called it ‘the single greatest moment in television history’.

One U.S. viewer commented: ‘That kid’s got more wit and humor than a lot comedians today.’

Another added: ‘The male host’s reaction was so genuine. I have tears in my eyes.’

‘I’m not even this kid’s dad, and he still made me proud!’ a third wrote, while a fourth remarked: ‘That kid just won the internet.’

Many vegans and vegetarians were even forced to admit that, despite being the butt of the joke, the young man’s comic timing was exemplary.

‘As a vegetarian, I laughed my arse off,’ one wrote.

7 vegan sandwiches featuring chickpeas, mushrooms, tofu and…

[ad_1]

Back in April, I compiled a roundup of eight of our delicious vegetarian sandwich recipes. While I still think there are plenty of great options on the list worth checking out, many of you pointed out that a majority of them are heavy on the cheese. And as much as I love a bit of Swiss or cheddar, they’re certainly not required for a great sandwich.

That gave me the idea to pick out our best vegan sandwiches. They star legumes, jackfruit, mushrooms, colorful vegetables and bold, exciting flavors. Whether you’re plant-based, lactose-intolerant or just looking for a satisfying lunch, there’s a sando here for everyone. For even more sandwich recipes, head to our Recipe Finder.

The Best Vegan Protein Powders: Increase Your Strength Whil…

[ad_1]

In a world where health and fitness are gaining paramount importance, protein supplements have become a staple for many fitness enthusiasts. For those following a plant-based diet, finding the right source of protein can be a concern. However, with the surge in popularity of veganism, the market is now flooded with various options for vegan protein powders. Let’s explore the top choices to help you boost your strength while staying true to a plant-based lifestyle.

Why Choose Vegan Protein Powders?

Opting for a vegan protein powder aligns with a cruelty-free and environmentally sustainable lifestyle. Plant-based protein powders are derived from sources like peas, rice, hemp, soy, and more. These powders offer a complete amino acid profile, aiding in muscle recovery and growth. Additionally, they are usually easier to digest and can be a great alternative for those with lactose intolerance or dairy allergies.

Pea Protein Powder

Pea protein powder is a popular choice among vegans. Made from yellow peas, it is a rich source of protein and is easily digestible. Pea protein is also packed with essential amino acids, particularly lysine, which is vital for tissue repair and growth. Many users appreciate its mild taste, making it versatile for various recipes.

Rice Protein Powder

Rice protein powder, often made from brown rice, is another excellent vegan protein source. It is hypoallergenic and low in fat, making it suitable for individuals with dietary restrictions. Although it may not contain all essential amino acids, combining it with other protein sources can compensate for any deficiencies.

Hemp Protein Powder

Hemp protein powder is derived from hemp seeds and offers a well-balanced nutritional profile. It’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, making it beneficial for heart health and digestion. Hemp protein is also easily digestible and provides a good amount of protein per serving.

Soy Protein Powder

Soy protein powder is a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids. It’s made from soybeans and is a popular choice for vegans and vegetarians. Additionally, soy protein has been associated with various health benefits, including supporting bone health and reducing the risk of certain chronic diseases.

Blend of Plant Proteins

Some vegan protein powders combine various plant sources to create a comprehensive amino acid profile. These blends often include pea, rice, hemp, and other plant proteins, ensuring you get a diverse range of nutrients. They provide the benefits of different plant sources in one convenient powder.

How to Choose the Right Vegan Protein Powder

When selecting a vegan protein powder, consider factors such as protein content per serving, amino acid profile, taste, and any additional ingredients. It’s essential to choose a protein powder that aligns with your taste preferences and dietary needs.

Incorporating Vegan Protein Powder Into Your Diet

You can easily incorporate vegan protein powder into your daily meals and snacks. Blend it into smoothies, mix it into oatmeal or yogurt, or bake it into muffins or protein bars. Experiment to find what works best for you and fits seamlessly into your routine.

Tips for Optimal Results

To maximize the benefits of vegan protein powders, it’s crucial to maintain a balanced diet, engage in regular exercise, and stay adequately hydrated. A holistic approach to health and fitness will enhance your overall well-being.

Potential Considerations and Side Effects

While vegan protein powders offer numerous advantages, some individuals may experience digestive discomfort, especially if they have sensitive digestive systems. It’s advisable to start with a small serving and gradually increase to assess tolerance.

Vegan protein powders provide a viable and sustainable option for individuals seeking to increase their protein intake while adhering to a plant-based lifestyle. With a variety of plant-based protein powders available, you can find the one that suits your taste and nutritional preferences.

Cookbook Offers Vegan Recipes For Meat Dishes

[ad_1]

If you’ve recently adopted a plant-based diet and are looking for some easy vegan meat recipes, a new cookbook that offers meat-free versions of classic chicken, pork, lamb, and beef dishes has just been released in the UK.

MEAT comes from vegan chef duo BOSH!, made up of UK-based friends Henry Firth and Ian Theasby. It features 100 vegan meat recipes, including chicken wings, lamb ragu, chorizo mac and cheese, and more. As well as meat dishes, the book also contains recipes for plant-based dairy and egg-based meals, including a halloumi salad and cheese and mushroom omelet.

“Plant-based food options have increased in ways we wouldn’t have thought possible when we first went vegan, almost nine years ago.” BOSH! told Plant Based News. “People are now aware of where their food comes from and the impact it has. Because of this, they’ve changed the way they eat, eating a lot less meat and a lot more plants. However, a lot of people still want the texture and flavors of the food they’re accustomed to, this is why plant based meat has become so popular.”

The vegan meat market

Plant-based meat has seen skyrocketing popularity over the last decade, thanks largely to the rise of veganism, as well as vegetarian and “flexitarian” diets.

The global plant-based meat market was valued at USD $4.4 billion in 2022. It’s been forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.9 percent from 2023 to 2030.

Vegan meat is, in many countries, readily available in supermarkets, stores, and restaurants. In recent years, a number of new brands have entered the market, making everything from vegan seafood to realistic whole cuts of steak.

The rise of BOSH!

The front cover of the new BOSH! vegan cookbook, named MEAT
BOSH! MEAT is available to buy now

MEAT is the seventh book from BOSH!, their first was released in 2018. Since then, the duo have released Speedy BOSH! (focusing on quick and easy meals), BOSH! Healthy Vegan, BOSH! On A Budget, and more.

BOSH! have sold over one million copies of their books, and also amassed two billion views across their social media platforms. They also have food products stocked in major UK supermarkets, including cakes and nutritional yeast (nooch).

‘BOSH! MEAT’ by Henry Firth and Ian Theasby is available from HQ, HarperCollins now.

Tash Peterson: Infamous bikini-clad vegan activist disappears from Instagram after posting racy photo

Australian vegan activist Tash Peterson has been mysteriously booted off Instagram.

The Perth-based star’s account, @vganbooty, disappeared from the social media site on Monday with her 22,000 followers unable to see her content.

When directed to her account on Instagram’s website, the page error reads: ‘Sorry, this page isn’t available.’

The vegan OnlyFans star appears to still be active on other social media apps, however, as she recently posted on X and Facebook.

Tash has been travelling with her boyfriend Jack Higgs in Norway and she recently posted a photo of them gazing at the Northern Lights.

‘Northern lights and animal abuse free wood fired pizza on a veganic permaculture farm,’ she wrote.

Her last racy photo shared to X was on September 11, where she stood in a hottub while wearing a skimpy string bikini and flashed her backside to the camera.

Tash made headlines a few months ago when she was issued with a 12-month ban from entering any venues that serve alcohol after becoming involved in an ugly exchange with chef John Mountain at his Perth restaurant Fyre on June 30 and July 8.

She later released shocking footage of her burning a police notice banning her from all pubs and restaurants in Western Australia.

John had banned vegans from his restaurant prompting Tash to stage protests outside his venue.

She disturbed diners by playing loud audio of squealing pigs while shouting about the ‘animal apocalypse’.

‘I don’t comply to this any more, I don’t accept this serving notice,’ the model and vegan protestor said, before burning a piece of paper.

In doing so Tash not only rejected the police order, originally issued by Joondalup Police, she challenged the authority of WA’s court system.

‘I will continue to go into restaurants and places with liquor licenses if they are profiting and serving animal abuse, torture, enslavement and murder,’ she said.

‘No-one can stop me from bringing to light the largest holocaust in history where trillions of non-human people are brutally murdered simply for human pleasure.’

In the clip, which she posted to her social media channels, she claimed the notice was ‘a complete misuse of the law’.

‘This notice is designed for disorderly, drunken and violent people not animal rights activists.

‘They are using it in an attempt to silence me, to stop me from bringing light to the animal holocaust in many venues.

John is now suing Tash for defamation, claiming she trashed his business online and harassed his diners during angry protests.

Countless social media posts combined with in-person demonstrations inside his restaurant have left him with no other option, he told A Current Affair last week.

‘I constantly get daily death threats, and terrible emails and it’s just too much,’ John said.

John has lived in Australia for seven years after arriving from Britain where he was a celebrity chef who shared an agent with kitchen superstar Jamie Oliver, he also starred in cooking shows the Great British Menu and Chef Race UK v US.
