DSB organic agriculture farmer tops regional search for outstanding rural women

Dolores Rebatado-Ceralbo, an organic farming advocate from Barangay Pandanon in Don Salvador Benedicto, bagged this year’s Regional Search for Outstanding Rural Women at MO2 Westown Hotel in Iloilo City on Friday, October 14.

Ceralbo received a P50,000 cash prize, a P50,000 worth of project grant, and a plaque of recognition.

Her assisting technician Ma. Elena Ortega of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA)– Negros Occidental received a P15,000.00 cash prize.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn Barrios of Numancia in Aklan landed first runner-up and received a P30,000.00 cash prize and a plaque of recognition.

Her assisting technician Juvi Trieste of OPA-Aklan received a P10,000 cash prize.

A special award was given to Ma. Luz Sarad of Hamtic in Antique together with her assisting technician Mariepet Sinos from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist – Hamtic, Antique.

Dolores Ceralbo’s passion for sustainable agriculture started with her simple goal – providing three meals daily for her family.

Through her dedication and hard work, Ceralbo was able to establish her organic integrated farm.

With the hope to help other farmers in the community, she organized a farmer’s association in 2006.

Through strong cooperation and commitment among the members, the association was linked to other organizations and institutions that paved way for various marketing opportunities.

National Director for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Annray Rivera graced the awarding ceremony.

She lauded all rural women farmers and fishers in the region, especially the regional qualifiers for their contribution to realizing the important roles of women in agriculture.

Also present during the awarding are Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Director Remia Aparri and Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas Admin and Finance Division Chief Zarlina Cuello. (DA-WV)
