Just like how the fashion world seemingly promotes and demotes trends constantly, the beauty industry is always abuzz with a new hero ingredient or a “breakthrough” skincare routine.
But one thing that stuck through the seasons, and rightly so, is sustainability.
An answer to environmental calls that will benefit Mother Earth, the beauty industry adopted measures — some drastic, some gradual — to lower the industry’s negative impacts on the environment.
International health and beauty retailer A.S.Watson Group is one of the companies who heeded the call for sustainable beauty.
“As a brand, sustainable beauty is close to our heart. But what does it exactly mean? Simply put, it refers to beauty products using natural ingredients, produced from renewable raw materials,” Watsons Marketing Director Viki Encarnacion shared at the brand’s latest launch.
Encarnacion emphasized that renewability is one of the keys to sustainability. She cited palm oil as an example, which many may not know is the single most used ingredient in a lot of products.
“Almost every beauty product uses it so all the more that it must come from responsibly-managed plantations to ensure that we will never run out of palm oil. So we have to check that the products we have uses raw materials that are coming from responsibly-managed plantations,” Encarnacion noted.
Besides checking the source of ingredients, Encarnacion said sustainable beauty can also refer to habits that are kinder to the planet.
She proudly noted how Watsons have always promoted the habit of reusing bags and packaging and offered refill packs so customers can reuse their old containers.
But the brand felt they can do more.
As such, Naturals by Watsons earlier this month took refilling to a whole new level.
“We are proud to offer our very first Naturals by Watsons refill station in the Philippines, right here in Megamall.”
With the refilling station, Watsons customers can now bring their empty Naturals by Watsons bottle and fill it with any of their favorite variant — Aloe Vera Shampoo, Coffee Shampoo, Argan Shampoo, Olive Shampoo, and Aloe Vera Body Wash.
Empty bottles with screw caps are also available for purchase in the store.
“In the past, sustainable could mean more expensive. But this doesn’t apply to refills. Customers can save up to 40 percent in every purchase,” Encarnacion elaborated.
Adding novelty to refills, customers will also get a free sticker that they can use to customize their bottles.
Meanwhile, addressing the common concern for refilling stations, Encarnacion assured they are using pumps to put products directly inside the bottles.
“We do away with manual pouring and refilling which means it does not get in contact with any human, it goes straight into the bottle. You can be assured that there is no contamination and that we don’t compromise the integrity of the product.”
Finally, Encarnacion encouraged everyone to adopt the habit of refilling.
“Through this habit, our customers can save money for their essentials and save the planet. That’s hitting two birds with one stone,” Encarnacion ended.
Naturals by Watsons carry the core ranges of Aloe Vera, Argan, Coffee, and Olive.
The Aloe Vera line is made with Mexico-sourced aloe extract that soothes dry and irritated skin and strengthens hair.
Meanwhile, Argan line features Argan oil and Argan seed extract from Morocco works best for extremely dry and damaged hair and skin.
Coffee line boosts the anti-hairfall properties of coffee bean extracts, imported from Africa.
Finally Olive line is formulated with organic olive oil and olive fruit extract from Italy which provides deep moisturizing for hair and skin.
This November, Naturals by Watsons added the limited edition Lavender range. The sweet flower’s calming and relaxing scent will ease away stress, and bring more relaxation and good energy.
