New Delhi. Now there is one hour left for the presentation of the budget (Budget 2023). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget at 11 am. The Union Budget 2023-24 holds special significance because it will be the last full budget of the Narendra Modi government before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Big announcements are expected for the farmers this time in the budget. It is believed that the amount given to the farmers under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme may increase.

Till now 12 installments of this ambitious scheme of the Modi government have come into the accounts of the farmers. More than 8 crore farmers of the country had received the money for the 12th installment. Under PM Kisan Yojana (PM Kisan), 6 thousand rupees are given to the farmer every year. This money is given in three installments of two thousand each. In the last budget, in view of the discontent among the farmers due to the farmer’s movement and now in view of the elections being held in five states, it was expected that the amount of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana would increase. But, no such announcement was made in the budget.

There was no major announcement in the last budget
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not make any such announcement for the farmers in last year’s budget, which would have a direct impact on the farmers’ pockets. The government did not accept the demand of farmer organizations to guarantee MSP in the budget. In the last budget (Budget 2022), it was said to start new schemes in PPP mode to make farmers digital and hi-tech, to promote zero budget farming and organic farming, to emphasize on value addition and management. But, nothing was said in the budget about the important demands of the farmers.

Neither the subsidy on fertilizers increased nor on the machines
Even before the last budget, the finance minister was expected to increase the subsidy on fertilizers and agricultural machinery. In the budget, it was talked about taking necessary steps to promote technology in agriculture, but no subsidy or grant was announced on the agricultural machinery used by the farmers on a daily basis.
